Strengthening Women Through Legal & Gender Awareness
WEEDS has long championed the cause of women’s rights, promoting gender equality through awareness, advocacy, and community-based empowerment. Rooted in the belief that “Women’s Rights are Human Rights,” the program strengthens women’s social, legal, and economic standing through continuous rights-based training.
In the early years, WEEDS led multiple women’s rights rallies in response to critical social issues. During the 1990s, the widespread crisis of counterfeit liquor claimed the lives of many young men, leaving women to face severe economic and emotional hardship.
WEEDS responded by organizing rallies and awareness programs across the Kundrathur block, bringing attention to the issue and supporting affected families.
Today, WEEDS continues to work closely with local Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to deliver regular training sessions on legal rights, gender equality, safety, and socio-economic empowerment. These grassroots initiatives help rural women understand their rights, build confidence, and become active participants in community development.
