Oppressed Poor women of Gerugambakkam, Mangadu areas were organized under one single banner as "Keezhmanagar Mahalir Munnettra sangam". This sangam were united to eradicate illicit liquor which ruined lives of many women in their area. Soon, the sangam spread to 7 near hamlets and changed its name to "Womens Education and Development Socity (WEEDS). From then, WEEDS started to working for the social development of women.
Through our leadership program six of our self-help group women became ward councilors
Impacted the lives of three sisters (Stella, Sarala and Jancy) by giving them sustainable life.

Registered with the ministry of home affairs in 2004 to receive foreign contributions (FCRA). The works of WEEDS were recognized by International development agencies and partnered WEEDS for the women & children Development,

WEEDS in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Constructed 184 Houses and Independently constructed 5 houses for families from scheduled tribes community.
With the support of GiveIndia we gave scholarships to 300 students
180 youngsters were given skill training with the support of "Aide et Action" and provide placement opportunities.
WEEDS fought for Dalit land rights of mangadu area & more than 100 families received financial benefits of Rs.5 Lakh to Rs.50 Lakhs
On seeing our service towards the society, we received award for best Humanitarian Service from Madras School of Social Work Institution.
WEEDS started to work with companies on creating awareness among employees/workers about "Prevention of sexual Harassment of women at workplace Act".
Started Tailoring unit at Field office in Mangadu to train women.
Received award from ICICI Bank for the Exemplary performance towards SHG Bank linkage Program.
Partnered with Dhwani Foundation for capacity building Training programme to enhance our community development projects.
Supported 83 students from low income families/single parent children to receive scholarships to continue their education & distributed school kits to 125 poor school students.
Conducted Bladder cancer awareness program among women from Mangadu & Kundrathur municipality in collaboration with World Bladder cancer patient coalition.
WEEDS has started its 2nd Tailoring unit at Kundrathur Municipality to train women.
